Worldwide there are large volumes of waste of polyolefin blends are not currently being used for primary market applications such as film making, due to the great difficulty that exists in the separation of the three plastic components. These wastes consist of three components: HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), LDPE (low density polyethylene) and PP (Polypropylene).

Lurederra Technological Center noticed a gap in the recycling of mixed polyolefin materials and hence set out a proposal to achieve the implementation of an innovative technology that will obtain the separation from the rest of polyolefins LDPE.

The project REC-POLYOLEFIN, with LIFE10 ENV/ES000460 contract number, has a budget of 1,127,384€ and the European Commission's contribution amounts to 504,569€. The project began on September of 2011 and will run for three years, until August 2014.
